The trailer for Moana 2 begins with a serene shot of the ocean at sunrise, waves gently lapping at the shore. Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) is seen standing at the edge of the beach, gazing out at the horizon, her voyager’s spirit clearly restless. “The ocean chose me once,” her voiceover begins, “but now, it calls me back for something greater.”
Cut to Motunui, thriving and peaceful under Moana’s leadership. However, trouble looms when villagers notice strange phenomena: the tides behaving unpredictably, once-thriving reefs turning barren, and whispers of an ancient force awakening beneath the waves. In a moment of urgency, Grandma Tala’s spirit appears to Moana, warning, “The ocean’s balance is broken. And you’re the only one who can restore it.”
Moana sets sail once again, joined by Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), who reluctantly agrees to help but can’t resist bragging about his previous heroics. “You’re welcome…again,” he quips, flexing his tattoos. Alongside the lovable rooster Hei Hei and a new mischievous sea otter companion, they journey to uncharted waters filled with mysterious dangers.
The trailer flashes through breathtaking underwater kingdoms, a massive, bioluminescent sea creature guarding a lost relic, and a rival demigod whose powers threaten to consume the ocean itself. As Moana and Maui confront these challenges, their bond is tested, especially when Maui’s past choices come back to haunt him.
The action-packed climax shows Moana facing the ocean’s wrath, wielding her newfound connection to both land and sea to unite her people and heal the ocean. The final shot shows her raising her oar triumphantly, declaring, “This is our home. And I’ll protect it with everything I have.”
