Creepshow 2 (1987) – Spoiler Summary, Budget, and Box Office Performance
Creepshow 2 is a horror anthology film directed by Michael Gornick, based on stories by Stephen King and a screenplay by George A. Romero. It serves as a sequel to the 1982 cult classic Creepshow. The film features three chilling tales of terror, tied together by animated segments featuring “The Creep,” a ghoulish storyteller.
The first story, “Old Chief Wood’nhead,” follows an elderly couple who own a general store in a struggling town. After being robbed and murdered by a group of thugs, the wooden Native American statue outside their store comes to life and exacts brutal revenge on the criminals.
The second tale, “The Raft,” centers on four college students who swim out to a floating raft in a remote lake. They soon find themselves trapped by a mysterious, flesh-eating black ooze that lurks in the water. One by one, the students are gruesomely devoured as they desperately try to escape.
The final story, “The Hitchhiker,” tells the tale of a woman who accidentally kills a hitchhiker with her car. As she flees the scene, the hitchhiker’s mangled corpse keeps reappearing, haunting her with the phrase, “Thanks for the ride, lady!” The story ends with a horrifying twist as the hitchhiker exacts his revenge.
The film had a budget of $3.5 million and grossed approximately $14 million at the box office, making it a modest financial success. While it lacked the critical acclaim of its predecessor, Creepshow 2 has gained a cult following over the years for its campy horror and memorable stories.
The film’s practical effects, eerie atmosphere, and dark humor make it a nostalgic favorite for fans of 1980s horror anthologies.
