The trailer for Moana 2: We’re Back opens with a serene view of the ocean at dawn, the sun’s golden rays dancing across the water’s surface. We hear Moana’s voice, now older and more assured, narrating: “The ocean chose me once to restore balance. But its call is stronger than ever before.” The camera cuts to Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) standing on the shore of Motunui, looking out at the horizon, her eyes filled with determination.
We’re reintroduced to the lively and colorful village, bustling with activity as Moana prepares for a grand celebration marking the anniversary of her epic voyage. Familiar faces greet her warmly—her parents, the mischievous Pua, and Hei Hei, still as clueless as ever. But amid the festivities, Moana senses something amiss. The ocean, usually calm and welcoming, is restless and agitated, with dark clouds looming on the horizon.
The scene shifts to a mysterious island engulfed in a violent storm. We see the silhouette of a menacing new figure, Te Kauri, a powerful being who controls the winds and storms, and who has awakened to reclaim his place as the ruler of the seas. Te Kauri, voiced by a new addition to the cast, threatens to plunge the world into chaos unless the ocean is returned to its natural state—free from human interference.
Moana realizes she must embark on a new journey, not just to protect her people but to save the entire world from the wrath of Te Kauri. She sets sail once more, this time accompanied by a spirited young navigator from another island, Leilani, who brings her own unique skills and a mysterious connection to the ocean. Along the way, they encounter giant sea creatures, ancient underwater cities, and even Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), who is reluctantly pulled away from his laid-back island life to help them.
The trailer’s climax features an epic confrontation between Moana, Maui, and Te Kauri amidst a raging storm. Moana uses her deep bond with the ocean to calm its fury, convincing Te Kauri that humanity and nature can coexist in harmony. The final scene shows Moana and Leilani standing on a cliff, overlooking a peaceful ocean as Moana smiles, saying, “The ocean calls to all of us. And we’re ready to answer.”
The screen fades to the title card: Moana 2: We’re Back – Coming 2025.
