The trailer for The Grinch 2 opens with a snowy scene of Whoville, all decorated and bustling as the Who residents prepare for the biggest holiday season yet. The camera pans up to reveal Mount Crumpit, now slightly friendlier-looking, with signs of life showing around the Grinch’s (Jim Carrey) cave. A grumbling voiceover from the Grinch says, “I thought I’d warmed up to Christmas…but I forgot about people.”
Cut to the Grinch attempting to enjoy a “quiet” Christmas in his now cozier home, with his loyal dog Max by his side. He’s decorated his lair, albeit in a somewhat messy, haphazard fashion. However, his peace is short-lived when he learns that the Whos are planning a massive new Christmas festival. Loud music, fireworks, and the Who kids’ sled races immediately disturb his quiet retreat. Cindy Lou Who (now grown up and played by a popular actress) visits him, asking him to be the “Grand Who of Christmas,” but the Grinch scoffs, muttering, “Can’t an old Grinch retire in peace?”
The trailer shows the Grinch reluctantly joining the festivities but struggling with his old habits as he starts to pull pranks on the Whos, causing festive chaos. He “accidentally” unplugs the town’s enormous Christmas tree, causes mayhem at a baking contest, and even initiates a hilarious snowball fight with the Who kids. However, after a disastrous accident that nearly spoils the festival, the Grinch feels a pang of guilt and begins to question if he’s reverting to his old ways.
The trailer climaxes with a heartwarming scene where Cindy Lou reminds the Grinch of the kindness he showed years ago, encouraging him to join the Whos in truly embracing the spirit of Christmas. In a hilarious finale, he surprises everyone by singing (in his own offbeat way) at the festival’s closing ceremony.
